How does it work? We caught up with Mauricio Longoni, CEO of the Brazilian studio Aquiris, to learn about the thriving Wonderbox universe, and find out what plans they have for the future.

What was the inspiration for Wonderbox?

We wanted to do something where you could play your favorite games without having to wait for the sequel to come out. So we built an environment that allows you to easily create and share adventures. As soon as you finish one, you can play another.

What are the objects in the game that you like the most?

The booster, which helps you jump higher, completely changed the possibilities of the game. One of the people who was testing it created a level that required using all the special items, such as the pickaxe and the claw. Watching the combinations that players try has been fascinating. Our designers used those same tools to create the original levels.

What is the best way to discover the best levels?

As in other games with user-created content, in Wonderbox you need to complete your own levels before sharing. If you can't finish them you can't publish them! We select some as well. Our Adventure Gallery has categories like: Favorites, Challenges, and Scavenger Hunt. Players can also view the latest published levels and search for their favorite creator or a certain adventure. The game also has a large portal where you can enter and play something at random.

What news are you preparing?

We are always planning new things. Although we made the game to look like a classic RPG, this world allows for multiple themes with different objects and enemies. We would like to get to a point where group adventures can be built. One person could create a cube, share its code with a friend, and incorporate various modules into larger adventures. "
